Bob at Mt. Bolilvar Fire Lookout

Dave and I took a 'day off' from working on our Shasta home and went up to visit Bob on Mt. Bolivar.
We really enjoyed our visit there with him and realized that, even as 'retired folks', it had taken us 6 years to get up there!
So, I decided to make up a little webpage about the visit so some of the rest of the family could see some of what we saw!

To get to Bob on Mt. Bolivar from our Shasta home, we turned off I-5 north of Weed and drove in on the Gazelle Callahan Rd.

This is Mt. Bolivar.

And this is the town of Callahan. It sort of looked like a living ghost town to us!

From the town, Bob told us it would only be a half hour drive up to the lookout. It is perched right above the town.

We weren't certain we could make it in the van, but we've never told it that it isn't a 4WD and it got us there!

We forgot to take the camera into the lookout, but the 360 degree view was gorgeous - mts on 3 sides and looking down the Scott Valley on the 4th side.
You could really get the feeling of how the lookout protects the area.

Here's the view back towards Mt. Shasta and our home which is on the other side.

After the OLD town of Callahan, it was amazing to see these high-tech solar panels and anntenae!

Bob later explained that they were for the Jefferson Public Radio station that he and we love to listen to!

To use the bathroom, Bob has to hike down to below the Radio anntenae to this rustic outhouse!

But, what it lacks in amenities, it makes up in the view! Click on the image to see it the larger view!!

I took a picture of the natural bonsai - a Mountain Mahogany just before we left.

And we were really glad for good brakes as we headed home!
