FORT POINT, SAN FRANCISO, CA

Fort Point, The Presidio, SF
The ditch alongside the road into the fort is a good location for finding SF Forktails Ischnura gemina.
It is approached by driving along Marine Drive which leads to Ft. Point National Historical Site (located under
the south end of Golden Gate Bridge). Drive west on Marine Drive until you reach where there is parking on the north side
of the road (above rocky seawall and the Bay). Park there. Carefully cross the street (there can be lots of tourist traffic,
including buses) and you will notice a small sedge-lined ditch at the base of the bluff on the south side of the road.
That's where the SF Forktails are -- lots of them (at least the last few years) and they are easily approachable. It's best to
try to get there early before there's too much traffic. It's a pretty tight space to walk along the shoulder of the road,
which you'll be sharing with walkers, runners, and cyclists.
