Pachydiplax longipennis

Blue-dasher male A Blue Dasher called "Pachy" on Pickerel Weed on Bigsnest pond '96.

NOTE: The DSA (Dragonfly Society of the Americas) came up with common names for dragonflies in August `96, the Common Name used in many insect guides published before that date is Swift Long-winged Skimmer .

Male Blue Dashers are very similar to Male Western Pondhawks. One way to help tell them apart is by where they perch. While the Western Pondhawk will perch on the ground or very low and close to the water, the Blue Dasher usually perches on vegetation ~ 1-3 feet above the water. Blue Dasher
