A female Blue Dasher on Lychnus at Bigsnest pond.
NOTE: The DSA (Dragonfly Society of the Americas) came up with common names for the dragonflies in August `96, the Common Name used in many insect guides published before that date for Pachydiplax longipennis is Swift Long-winged Skimmer. |
| Unlike male Pachydiplax longipennis, female Blue Dashers are not at all similar to female Western Pondhawks. One way to help tell the species apart at a site is to find a female. Male Blue Dashers appear very similar to females when they first emerge. | |
